Thaimex was established from the equitisation of State enterprises in 2006. Before that, the company was only a small factory manufacturing canned sardines, formed since the 1960s.

For over half of the century, with many ups and downs in production structure and executive management mechanisms, currently, Thaimex has become one of the few local leading companies that process and export seafood, supplying a large amount of frozen, dried and value-added (VAT) products for the domestic and international markets. The company’s headquarter is located in the downtown Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan Province - one of the most important fishing grounds of Viet Nam with many seafood species having high export value.

         Thaimex products have won many awards at the annual fairs such as the Gold Medal for skinless squids at the Giang Vo Exhibition in Hanoi in 1997; Gold Medal for sashimi cuttlefish  at Vietfish exhibition in 1998 and 1999; Quanlity Gold Trophy for skinless dried squid in 2005  voted by customers and Viet Nam Industrial Property Association; Certificate of Best Brands at the International Show of Best Viet Nam Brands in 2005, etc.

Currently, Thaimex has a close and sustainable relationship with partners in major markets like the US, EU, Japan, China, the Middle East, ASEAN, and Korea. In addition to exporting markets, the company keeps developing its domestic distribution system. The best-selling products of Thaimex has penetrated and are now present in almost all supermarket chains and large retailing network in the country such as Metro, Lotte Mart, Coopmart, Kumho, Vincom, and so on.

Ensuring credibility, committing to good quality

According to Deputy General Director Nguyen Van Hien, Thaimex always maintains “military discipline" in the management and quality control in order to ensure credibility with domestic and international partners.

Even before equitisation, Thaimex had adopted the highest quality and food safety standards such as HACCP, ISO 9001: 2005, ISO 22000: 2005, US FDA, BRC, GMP, and SSOP. The company has also been approved to export to EU under the code DL 241 for frozen food and HK 48 for dried goods.

Thaimex’s squids, which are the company’s core product, are very diverse and extensive in range from premium types like Sushidane squid, Sugata, squid sashimi to fresh sweet squid tube, frozen octopus in the IQF form or block form. These products are popular in Italia, Middle East and Japan. In addition, there are other kinds of sea fish, shrimps, bivalve mollusks and other domestic products such as dried squids, dried fishes, and braised scad.

In December 2014, the Korea Fisheries Association (KFTA) leaded by Mr. Park Hyoung Coo paid a visit to Thaimex. They appreciated the production capacity as well as the quality standards that Thaimex currently deploys at the factory. Bilateral Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and Korea (VKFTA) was formally signed and put into operation in 2015, the Korean seafood companies are expected to jointly build reliable and sustainable relationship with Thaimex, contributing further exported resources between the two countries.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, in 2006 when the problem of food safety for Viet Nam amberjack repeatedly disparaged on the media of South Korea, many Korean inspection teams had come to inspect Vietnamese companies and Thaimex was also one of them. However, test results have proven that Thaimex products ensure high quality with a closed and strict production process.

"With the success in signing and implementing VKFTA, Thaimex commits to always maintaining the prestige and quality, boosting exports to South Korea in particular and the world market in general," Deputy General Director Nguyen Van Hien said.
